2017 Go Fish BC Photo Contest Winners

With over 400 entries from some very talented photographers, response to the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC’s fourth annual photo contest was fantastic. So many awesome photos made it very challenging for our panel of judges to choose the winners. We truly enjoyed the stories that accompanied your photos – some about huge fish, others about fishing buddies (i.e. your kids and fur babies), and many about first fish. Be sure to follow our Instagram page; we’ll be featuring the shortlisted photos throughout the year.

Congratulations to the finalists, who each receive a share of the $1,500 in cash prizes. You can view their winning shots below:

Category 1: People Freshwater Fishing in B.C. – for photos of anglers in action

1st Place – Cliff Razzo. “My friend Brennan Lund with a westslope cutthroat trout on the Wigwam River a day before it was ravaged by wildfires”

2nd Place – Nina Green. “My youngest daughter fishing the Nitinat River last September”

3rd Place – Carol Combs. “Fishing is always the best in the company of a good dog!”

Category 2: B.C. Freshwater Fishing Destinations – for photos of beautiful fishing landscapes

For the second year in a row Glenn Gerbrandt wins 1st place for the Freshwater Fishing Destinations category. This year, we could not decide between these two photos, so we are counting them as a tie.

1st Place - Glenn Gerbrandt. “Fall Fishing on Dragon Lake in the Cariboo”

1st Place - Glenn Gerbrandt. "Looking for rises on the beautiful marl shoals of Big Bar Lake in the Cariboo"

2nd Place – Danny Hollins. “A 45-kilometre float last winter on the Squamish sure made us wish we had checked the weather first! An absolutely stunning little canyon was the perfect spot to pull over and warm up”

3rd Place - Jeff Brown. “Perfect green water, only grizzlies for miles around, 15-pound silver coho on the line”

Category 3: B.C. Fishing Moments – for photos of fish, insect hatches, fishing tackle, or images that just don’t fit the first two categories

1st Place - Morgan Martin.

For the second year in a row, Morgan Martin wins 1st place in the Fishing Moments cateogory but, as in the Fishing Destinations category, we couldn't just pick one of his photos.

1st Place - Morgan Martin.

2nd Place – Eric Poulin. “On a four-day canoe trip to Murtle Lake in Wells Gray Provincial Park, the rainbow trout were plentiful. After catching our dinner for the day, I was able to snap this photo while my friend Andrew released this beautiful rainbow"

3rd Place – Brennan Lund. “Big, mean, B.C. bull trout. They have always been one of my favourite species to encounter, and this fish was no exception”

And we couldn’t resist sharing some of the honourable mentions:
