2020 Go Fish BC Photo Contest

The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC is accepting submissions for our 2020 “Go Fish BC Photo Contest."

We are looking for your best photos from your summer fishing adventures. It could be a big fish. It could be a beautiful vista on your favourite lake. It could be a special family moment. Whatever great fishing experience you captured this summer we’d love to see it!

A total of $1,575 in cash prizes will be awarded in three categories. There will be three $300 first prizes, three $150 second prizes, and three $75 third prizes. Full details, and instructions on how to enter, are available on the blog.


  1. Luck on the Lake – for photos of anglers in action on lakes in B.C.
  2. Rewards of the River – for photos of anglers and fishing featuring rivers in B.C.
  3. BC Fishing Moments – for photos of fish, insect hatches, fishing tackle, scenic shots, or great family moments fishing and enjoying the outdoors


The 2020 Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC “Go Fish BC Photo Contest” (the “Contest”) begins August 1, 2020 and ends October 31, 2020, 12:00 p.m. Winners will be notified by November 8, 2020. Winning photographs will also be announced on our website, gofishbc.com, and in our e-newsletter. Prize cheques will be mailed no later than December 20, 2020. 

Who May Enter:

No purchase necessary. Contest is open only to legal residents of Canada, except residents of Quebec, who have reached the age of majority at the time of entry. Employees or affiliates of the Freshwater Fisheries Society and their immediate family members (spouse, parent, child, sibling and their respective spouses, regardless of where they live) or persons living in the same households of such employees, whether or not related are not eligible.

How to Enter:

Photos must be submitted via email to: photocontest@gofishbc.com. Please include an appropriate caption, as well as your name, mailing address, phone number, and Instagram account handle, if you have one, with each entry. Contact us at photocontest@gofishbc.com if you are having problems emailing your photo or would like to arrange an alternate way to submit your photo.

The Categories for entries are: (1) Luck on the Lake; (2) Rewards of the River; and (3) BC Fishing Moments (the "Categories"). You may submit three photos in each category. However, photographers will not be awarded more than one prize. Each entry must comply with the following requirements (the "Photograph Requirements"):

  • Photographs must be in digital format. All digital files must be 10 megabytes or smaller, must be in JPEG or .jpg format, and must be at least 1,400 pixels wide (if a horizontal image) or 1,400 pixels tall (if a vertical image).
  • Photographs must have been taken within two (2) years before the date of entry
  • All winners will be required to submit a high resolution JPEG.


If any person appearing in any photograph is under the age of majority in their province/territory of residence the signature of a parent or legal guardian is required on each release.

Upon request, each entrant must be prepared to provide (within seven (7) calendar days of receipt of request) a signed release from all persons who appear in the photograph submitted.

Terms and Conditions

Use of Photos
By entering and participating in the Contest, you consent to the use of your photograph by the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC for promotional use, during or after the Contest closing date, without compensation.  Of course, photo credits will be given wherever possible.

Photographic entries must not infringe upon or violate any laws or any third party rights, including, but not limited to copyright, patent, trademark, trade secret or other proprietary rights and must not constitute material that would be considered libeling, defamatory, or a privacy violation.

Entrants must obtain all necessary permissions, licenses, clearances, releases, waivers of moral rights and other approvals from third parties (including but not limited to all copyright holders and all individuals appearing in the story submission), necessary to use the photographic entry, in whole or in part, in any way, including to reproduce, make derivatives, edit, modify, translate, distribute, transmit, publish, license and broadcast the photographic entry worldwide, by any means, without limitation. Any and all such permissions, licenses, clearances, releases, waivers of moral rights and approvals must be included.

The owner of a photographic entry retains ownership over the photograph.   Each entrant (and his/her/their parent or guardian) irrevocably and in perpetuity grants the Contest Administrators a world-wide, royalty-free, irrevocable and non-exclusive right and licence to use, copy, adapt, transmit, communicate, publicly display and perform, distribute and create compilations and derivative works or merchandise from the photographic entity to promote the Contest Administrators, the Canada-China Year of Tourism, and Canadian Tourism.

Each entrant (and his/her/their parent or guardian) represents and warrants that he/she/they have the right to grant the licence set out above.

Selection of Winners
All winners will be selected on the basis of skill as determined by a panel of contest judges. This Contest is based on photography skills alone and not subject to random draw or any other element of chance

The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC and its advertising and promotion agencies are not responsible for late, lost, misdirected, or delayed entries.

The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC reserves the right to terminate or suspend or to amend these Terms and Conditions at any time and in any way, without prior notice, for any reason whatsoever.
